A Nod to Midcentury Modern: Our Multi-Award-Winning Design
Arroyo Seco Construction is the proud recipient of three CLCA design awards in 2021, receiving first place in Overall Residential, Design/Build, and Xeriscape. With a complete remodel and restoration of a midcentury modern home located in the foothills of Santa Barbara, they continue to deliver careful thought and detail throughout their comprehensive designs.
FRONT YARD
This midcentury revisioning of the landscape draws inspiration from the iconic period while remaining drought-tolerant and aligned with a modern Santa Barbara style. The high-desert plant palette provides an example of an extraordinarily low-maintenance and low-water-use garden without sacrificing aesthetics.
INTERIOR
Throughout the home, you’ll notice rift-sawn red oak flooring, which Arroyo Seco restored to its original condition, and incorporated into the newly constructed additions.
The eat-in kitchen showcases master craftsmanship, with cabinetry made from a rare bird’s eye maple with “tiger’s eye” knots in the wood - complemented with a pop of color in the modern tile backsplash.
The master bedroom, complete with white oak paneling and a walnut headboard, create a beautiful juxtaposition between the light and dark woods - along with base detailing and contemporary beams to enhance the beauty of the midcentury modern aesthetics.
The master bath is complete with a wide sink double vanity coupled with a spacious walk-in shower and soaking tub. It’s finished with Sapele, an African hardwood, and dynamic blue tiling that nods to the midcentury era.
Embedded throughout the home are functional design choices. Arroyo Seco transformed the hall closet into an office nook, ideal for remote school or working from home.
BACKYARD
Lastly, the backyard is highlighted with a negative-edge plunge pool, built-in barbeque, and food preparation space ideal for entertaining. The southern corten steel fence frames the ocean view with a beautiful cut-out design.
